Dr.Lionel Jedeikin

LRCP&S;
FCS (plast.SA)

Dr Lionel Jedeikin has a thriving practice in the beautiful city of Cape Town, South Africa. His client base is extensive and caters for the growing trend of ‘surgery safaris’ allowing individuals from abroad to take advantage of the high standard of medicine in South Africa, not to mention recovery time in beautiful surroundings. Many people choose procedures abroad for this reason, and the added advantage of favourable exchange rates. Dr Jedeikin’s practice is particularly geared for procedures abroad and has advice and service that covers all the essential details for travel and any special precautions needed for pre and post flight care.

After twenty years of specialist experience, Dr. Jedeikin is highly regarded by his clients, who never hesitate to refer him as a trusted and skillful surgeon. His interest in plastic surgery was ignited during early days at medical school. During an internship in Kwazulu Natal, Dr Jedeikin was privy to some remarkable cases where he also had the privilege of plastic reconstructive workshops with the prominent Dr. Wolf Losken.

Growing up in Zimbabwe, he completed A Levels and went straight on to do an undergraduate medical degree at the University of Rhodesia, (now the University of Zimbabwe), Godfrey Huggins School of Medicine in 1977.
The University had a close association with the Edinburgh University Medical Faculty – the LRCP&S (Edinburgh & Glasgow) and the entire class went to Edinburgh to write their final exams. In 1995 he was awarded his final postgrad degree in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery FCS (plast SA) administered by The College of Medicine of South Africa.

With a love of art and in particular, good sculpture, as well as a penchant for aesthetic sensibility, plastic surgery is the perfect application for Dr Jedeikin. It became his specialty and he remains forever fascinated by the marriage of artistic talent and surgical skills where every nuance and millimeter counts.
To him, it’s an art with immense freedom of expression. Although this may sound a little unconventional, it’s this very approach that underpins his success.
Shifting skin and adjusting parts of the body, whether for reconstructive purposes or aesthetic, is both awe inspiring and challenging bearing in mind all the possible variables and permutations.

Rhinoplasty surgery (surgery performed on the nose) is one of Dr. Jedeikin’s super-specialties. “It represents the epitome of fine surgical skills,” he explains.
“If a surgeon can ‘almost’ perfect rhinoplasty, then he or she should be able to sail through most other procedures with ease. I say, ‘almost’ because I don’t think it is a perfectible operation. This is not just my opinion, but is shared by the world’s best rhinoplasty surgeons, many of whom have been my teachers.”
Another favourite of Dr. Jedeikin is facial and neck surgery.
“Every face, neck and pair of eyes is different and offers a different challenge. Behind every, face, neck and pair of eyes is a human being with emotions, feelings and thoughts.”
“My challenge is to fully understand patients’ expectations and make sure they understand to exactly what level surgery can achieve and fulfill these expectations. This is probably the most important interaction that happens between patient and surgeon. The reality of expectations takes time and care and I like to focus on this aspect until absolute knowledge and understanding is reached.
When I feel I’m not connecting on this level with a patient, I take a step back, go through all my checks, regroup my thoughts and begin again.
This plan always works to establish a great connection.
In this way, there is so much to aesthetic surgery – it’s like an intricate cake recipe with ingredients like diligent and organised thought processes, compassionate patient-surgeon interaction, mixed with artistic flare, compassion and care. All this is destined to produce the finest results, a highly satisfied and happy patient including a happy doctor.
This is my offering to all my patients whatever their needs and queries.”
Dr. Jedeikin is married to Jeni and they have three children between the age of 20 and 30 years.
